This festival at the end of January celebrates the best of Ilocos Sur culture, from traditional dress and folk dance to tribal rituals and marching band contests.

The event is part of the Kannawidan Festival 2020, an annual two-week-long celebration commemorating the founding of the province on February 2, 1818 when the old Ilocos Province was split into Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur by a Royal Decree ordered by the King of Spain. Now on its 13th year, the festival has become a yearly venue for the various towns of Ilocos Sur to showcase their products and unique traditions.

The old and the new in Ilocano culture are both featured in this year’s Kannawidan Ylocos Festival -  the festival of Ilocos Sur that celebrates its being a separate province and its being a treasure chest of traditions and culture.  With this, The DepEd Ilocos Sur Division led the Education Day where thousands of teachers joined, and hundreds of students performed folk dances and folk songs through rondalla and chorale competitions. The festival is also a show of the province’s trade and agriculture products, and is a livelihood training ground for women and students through the Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Agriculture.

This festival held in Ilocos Sur shows off the different cultures of its vicinity. It is a highlight of of festivity that this province always keep on reigning.
